Dundalk Racecourse Guide
About
Dundalk Stadium in County Louth is home to Ireland's only all-weather racecourse, racing under floodlights through the autumn and winter, alongside greyhound racing at the same venue.
The Track & Course
The track is a left-handed oval of around a mile and a quarter on a synthetic surface, with a fairly short home straight. Being handy and drawn low can be an advantage, especially over shorter trips.
Going & Ground
Because the surface is synthetic, racing goes ahead in conditions that would cancel turf meetings, and the track tends to ride consistently from week to week, which helps form lines hold up.
Key Races
The Diamond Stakes, a Group 3 contest in the autumn, is the most prestigious race on the surface, and the winter series fills the gap when turf racing in Ireland is at its quietest.
