About
Carlisle is a galloping, testing course in Cumbria that hosts both flat and National Hunt racing and is regarded as a fine stamina examination.
The Track & Course
It is a right-handed, pear-shaped circuit that climbs steadily to a stiff uphill finish, so strong, relentless gallopers are favoured and speedy, sharp-track types are found out. Draw bias is limited on the round course.
Going & Ground
The ground can ride fast for the summer flat fixtures but becomes deep and testing over jumps in winter, when proven soft-ground stamina is essential.
Key Races
The Carlisle Bell and the Cumberland Plate, both run at the popular June flat fixture, are the meetings the course is best known for.
