Ayr Racecourse Guide
About
Ayr is Scotland's premier racecourse, a left-handed track on the west coast staging both quality flat and National Hunt fixtures through the year.
The Track & Course
The flat course is a galloping, fair, left-handed oval with a separate straight six furlongs. It rewards genuine, galloping types, and in the big sprint handicaps a high draw towards the stands side often holds an edge in soft ground. The jumps track is sound and stiff enough to need a thorough stayer.
Going & Ground
Ground can ride quick in summer for the flat fixtures but turns genuinely testing over jumps in midwinter, when stamina comes to the fore.
Key Races
The Ayr Gold Cup in September is one of the most competitive sprint handicaps in Europe, while the Scottish Grand National in April is the highlight of the jumping calendar.
