Chepstow Racecourse Guide
About
Chepstow racecourse is set in parkland in Monmouthshire, just over the Severn from England. It hosts both National Hunt and Flat racing and is best known for jumps racing through the winter.
The Track & Course
The main track is a left-handed, undulating oval of around two miles, with a stiff run to the finish that tests stamina. On the Flat there is also a straight course of about a mile, where pace and the draw across the track can both matter.
Going & Ground
Chepstow's ground can become very testing in winter, often soft or heavy, and genuine stayers come to the fore. Summer Flat meetings are usually run on good ground.
Key Races
The Welsh Grand National, run over the Christmas period, is the big race of the year and one of the toughest staying chases in the calendar. The October jumps meetings that open the season are also well followed.
