Brighton Racecourse Guide
About
Brighton racecourse lies on Whitehawk Hill on the eastern edge of the city, with views across the English Channel. It is a Flat-only track that races from spring into autumn.
The Track & Course
Brighton is not a full circuit but a left-handed horseshoe of about a mile and a half. It is sharp and undulating, with a steep downhill run towards the straight before a rise in the closing stages. Handy, well-balanced horses that cope with the camber do best, and course specialists are worth noting.
Going & Ground
The chalk downland drains quickly, so the ground is usually good or firmer through the summer. After heavy rain it can ride softer, which changes how the downhill section races.
Key Races
The highlight is the August festival week, a run of busy, well-attended meetings. The rest of the year is made up of handicaps and maidens that often attract small, tactical fields.
