Bath Racecourse Guide
About
Bath racecourse sits on Lansdown Hill above the city and is the highest Flat track in Britain, at around 780 feet above sea level. It stages Flat racing only, from spring through to autumn, with popular summer evening meetings.
The Track & Course
The track is a left-handed oval of roughly a mile and a half with a long, gently rising run-in that bends to the left before the line. That kink suits horses that handle a turn and keep finding, and over sprint trips a low draw can help on the inside of the bend.
Going & Ground
The downland turf drains very well, so the ground is often good or quicker, and firm going is common in a dry summer. Exposure on the hilltop means wind can be a factor on the run-in.
Key Races
Bath's cards are built mainly around handicaps, maidens and novice races, which makes it a regular source of competitive, open betting heats rather than big-name pattern races.
