Another iconic competitor was Desert Orchid (affectionally known as Dessie) who claimed first prize back in 1988. Foaled in 1979 in Leicestershire, England, Dessie won the King George VI Chase four times in his career in 1986,1988,1989 and 1990, as well as the Gainsborough Chase in 1987, 1989 and 1991.
